They say get more excercise, but thats only half the story, really, to feel tired enough to sleep you just have to be on your feet for a while. walk around and pick up the clothes in your room, play for a while with kids younger than 12, they know how to make someone tired. As for the TV thing, try turning off the sound, or leaving the sound but turning off the picture (like by using the radio) turn on a computer but leave the screen off for the hum of the fan, see if you can find what it is about the tv that helps you sleep, and then find something that does that without the bits that keep you up.

Turn Off the TV!!! It's distracting your brain and is inhibiting your brain's ability to shut down so you can sleep. Maybe get something else that makes noise... like a fan, or a white noise radio. But, no tv.
Also try the Three C's
Calcium (milk)
Chamomile (hot tea)
C- Vitamins
Take those three in combination, it's a natural remedy that is suppose to help you, unless there is a medical reason for your lack of ability to fall asleep. Otherwise, go to your doctor.

Well I was told to NEVER be in bed unless it was to sleep or to have sex. (I do lots of other stuff in bed any way but I have no problem sleeping) Also, if you can't get to sleep after 15 minutes get up and do something for a bit. Don't take any pills because they may make you get to sleep quick but the quality of sleep is not good so you wake up feeling horrible plus you can become addicted. Drinking milk or eating turkey can help you get to sleep as well because it has something in it called tryptophan which causes you to feel tired.

Turn the television volume down to where it's barely audible.
Set the channel to something that's monotone and boring, such as the news or the Discovery Channel or something to that effect.
Make sure you set the channel to something you're not interested in. The more boring, the better.
