...does this verse sound a bit masochistic to you, or not?
It is from Simon - Garfunkel "Tell me why".

Would you ever say that for real??
Let us have your opinion.

The meaning is obvious: I'll be glad to get rid of you....
It's optimistic....

I like Simon and Garfunkel and love the song “ Why Don’t You Write Me ”

I find the song has a deep meaning and doesn’t sound a bit masochistic at all.
In real life, I guess, no one would say that but it is imaginable if one waits a long time to hear about their lover and so anxious to say, I want hear something about them no mater that will be ( even if they say, they are leaving him ).

I agree with Dellarovere, a clever woman would understand the hidden meaning!!! It is just that Simon & Garfunkel respecting the feelings of the woman about to be dumped, show to men a nice, side ways manner on how to say "good bye my lady".

I'd say that for real only if I was really really depressed about a relationship. If he didn't say a word, and leave, and I knew nothing about him. At least an explanation, anything, just to know what's on his mind...

Yes, i said that to a girl one day and she laughed and said that I am psychic and can read people's mind. Then, she stopped answering my phones or calling me and I don't know why. She left without telling me that she is leaving me.

prolly not. The sentiment is real, one that I could see myself feeling... but i don't think anyone would really say it, much less get any satsfaction from it...

it's sad...I said something like that recently...when the pain is too big and you can't decide which way to go love and hate are not far apart...
