according to National Geographic, scientists have settled the old dispute over which came first--the egg or chicken. They say that reptiles were laying eggs thousands of years before chicken appeared, and the first chicken came from an egg laid by a bird that was not quite a chicken. That seems to answer the question. the egg came first.

This was solved last year (finally). The egg came first as an egg has the ability to change its DNA structure, a chicken, does not. Therefore the egg of something else mutated into a chicken. Also fish were laying eggs waaaay before the chicken came along!

I can't answer any better than jadeesofia. The first egg was laid by something that was very nearly a chicken. There was a very slight evolution from non-chicken into chicken. Just like 2 non-humans mating gave rise to the 1st human.

The egg came first, because an animal that was not a chicken laid the egg which hatched into a chicken.

In a race, the chicken come first because of their legs while the eggs will be the last.
The cited question can obtain relative answers so it needs to be clarified first.

The more important question here is who was the first man to watch a chicken laying an egg out of its butt and think, "Gee, I'd like to eat that!"

A circle has no begining ... that's my view :)
However the law of evolution would say the chicken ... because it evolved from something else's egg ... and became a CHICKEN and only then did CHICKEN EGGS COME

according to the bible, it was the chicken (god created the animals, not god created the eggs). according to scientists, they evolved from dinosaurs, so the real question is "which came first the dinosaur or the egg." since the evolved egg appeared before the evolved chicken, it was the egg.
