Depends on the state, whether or not your dad owns a shot gun, and how closely the baby's father is related to you. You will also need a parent/guardian signature on the marriage license application.

Depends where you live in America. I was just talking to my cousin the other day that is a STATE DISTRICT JUDGE in TEXAS. It use to be that way in Texas that you could get married at 16 and you still can. The only thing is things have changed here. You must petition the court for permission and it must be signed by the JUDGE before you can get married at 16. He told me most JUDGE's will NOT sign it nowadays because of the divorce rate and immaturity of the young people at 16. He said they get upset about it but he won't do it because he thinks it keeps a stressful situation for the STATE welfare system and for small children that are born to these parents who can not support them. It is terrible to see young people get married have a family and then see them all suffer because of financial purposes. It is not really their fault but EDUCATION has a great deal to do with it. They need to think before they get married so young .

You will need to live with the regret for getting married that young, when you get a few years older.

I did it, and regretted it. You are just way too young to make a major decision like that. The rest of your life is a long time. Don't ruin it. You are not even old enough to know what true love is. I hope that you will consider this advice. I would hate to see anyone make the same mistake I did.

I thought I loved this guy sooooo much that I had to get married. Now that I know what love is, I can't imagine what I was thinking about then. Unfortunately, my daughter had to be raised in a broken home because of my foolishness.

To the one who wants to get married at 16.

In most states you need your parents written consent. If you go to another state, without consent , the marriage is null and void.
Please, whatever you do, don't get married this young, More than half of all marriages end in divorce and the younger you are the slimmer a successful marriage. If you are really in love, wait until you are older. Marriage is tough, with so many responsibilities. Life changes drastically, and adds allot of pressure, too much for this age. If you are really in love, the true test is time. So give it time to build and strengthen before you decide to get married.

If your parents will sign the papers you can but I assure you it would be the biggest mistake you could ever make and it is at least a 95% certainty that your marriage will not last long. I got married my first time when I was 16... I thought it was a great thing to do and it made me an adult.... the only thing it made me was stupid..... it was truly one of my biggest regrets.... I'm sure you think you know better and will do what you want to ... all I can say is remember these words when it fails..... so I will say this now.... I Told You So!

You can get married at 16 with your parents permission. They would have to sign for you to get married. You really don't want to get married at 16 though.
At 16 you lack emotional maturity, employment that would pay rent and bills, and socially you would not have much of a life, because you would be broke all the time.
You need to date first, mature learn about yourself and have an idea of what kind of person you would like to meet one day. WAIT!

Yes, but the ‘rules’ depend on where you live.

In most states, it probably only requires parental consent. But in some states, it requires more. For example, in CA it requires parental consent AND a court order, plus the court can require the couple to attend premarital counseling before they issue the order.

And since someone mentioned emancipation….
Even minors who have been emancipated by the court, *in some states*, still cannot marry without parental consent (because in those states, their emancipation does not grant them that right).

Why would you want to get married a 16 when you are still a child....Marriage is a hard job, one example look at the divorce rate these days, people getting married because they think they are in love and it never works out being so young. You need to live your life and enjoy your teenage years because if you dont you will regret it for the rest of your life,,, think about it long and hard....

You either need to be emancipated, or you need a parents permission.

And while it isn't advisable to get married at 16, it can work out sometimes, it depends on wether the person is really in love or not.
