yeah, Maths is interesting since you have to use your brain, rather than remembering a bunch of stuff by heart. It 's cool and you have to use your skills a lot. Even people who are bad at Maths sometimes find it guite challenging.

I think you tend to like what you are good at. Some people are just wired to do well in math. As for me, I always had to work two or three times as hard because it didn't come as naturally for me. But in chemistry it is the opposite; I am very good at it and tend to spend most of my time in that area even though I also work in other areas (more pure physics). I ascribe a lot f it to personality types. My Meyer-Briggs personality type indicator (a personality test) says I am a scientist, and I am. Others I know are a Meyer-Briggs type that is associated with liking rules and regulations, ad they excel in engineering, which I just can't get into. I hypothesize that personality has a lot to do with it. Oh, and how can you tell the difference between an introverted and extroverted scientist? The extroverted scientist will look you in the eye as he/she tries to avoid you...

Sometimes it goes back to a teacher... if you had a good math teacher that you liked then you may have worked harder. On the other hand if no one gave you inspiration to do good at math (or other subject) then you may have taken the opposite side. Choose a career in something you love doing and you will be good at it!!!
Thank your teachers or parents who provided a good learning environment.

I like math because it's one of the few things I'm good at. I enjoy doing something that I know I can do well, and I constantly want to challenge myself.

My 14 year old is a whiz at math and she prefers it over all subjects. She says that she is constantly thinking in terms of numbers and is always converting, reducing, dividing, multiplying, adding (and whatever else you can do) numbers all time. It's weird, but, she loves it!

Because they are naturally good at it. They stand out because most people loath math, because they aren't naturally good at it.
If you think about it, it has only become applicable recently in the history of human kind. Cavemen sat and knapped rocks and drew pictures, not calculating numbers.

I'm one of those people. I just love having to solve something, its not just an answer you look up, you have to actually work at the question and solve it.
