That all depends on the temptation. My big temptation is eating...I know I'm not hungry or starving...but I have the urge to put something into my mouth, chew it up...enjoy the flavor and texture of the food...and swallow it. I now need to lose 38 lbs. I have to focus on something else...distraction works wonders. So I do something positive to keep my mind off of food. Exercise, reading, getting on Yahoo Answers, watching a movie, to name a few positive distractions.
If I have the temptation to persue a good looking woman who has been hitting on me, etc. I remember that I am married, and that my family loves me and needs me. This flirtatious woman does not need me nor does she love me...and the kicker for that one...I realize that woman uses the toilet like everyone else...and that she probably is cheating on someone else. That really turns me off.
I have never been tempted to break any laws or use any mind altering substances, so I couldn't tell you how I deal with alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs.
The most effective thing is to focus on something positive that will distract you from the temptation. All of those ideas work better if I pray in my mind when trying to overcome the temptations too...I have incredible will power when it's backed up by my Maker.

If it's a really strong temptation it is very difficult to do, and often almost impossible. All of us give in to temptation at some time & often more often than we like. But some times we are strong enough to put our minds on another course & withstand the temptation & when we do it feels like a victory!

well try not to be by urself or other situations when u might be tempted to do whatever. not to bible thump ya but it has a good metaphor in there that says somethin like if your ears cause you to sin cut them off which is kinda explicit and gross but it means that if something/someone is causing you to do something you know is wrong then you should eliminate the interaction between that something/someone

What "kind" of temptation.
Not being specific allows the range from murder to mundane.

Give in to it. That always works for me. And, at my age, you never know if it's going to pass your way again âº

try thinking of things you dread rather than the one or the things you desire or just stay away and avoid it.
