The animals and plants have something in common. Survival. That thirst for water when thirsty and moving towards the water hole, doing whatever to mate, to eat, to be warm, to adapt.

The difference between the human and the others is slowly becoming less obvious. We see other animals using tools, chimpanzees using sticks to get ants . . differently based on where they are, some jabbing for one at a time for a snack, others putting the stick in and getting a full buffet of ants.

The virtues classically are courage and things like this, ambitioin, hard worth ethic, etc.

The greatest virtue of a human being.

Can one address survival as a virtue? Is it any less since other species share it?

We punish the guilty. Those who do harm to our species we punish either with jail time, fines, or death.

We are perhaps the only species that takes away freedom of one of us for the greater good.

I would say that collectively the human being's creation of society and civilization, a civic virtue, subservant to the will of the good, perhaps that is our greatest virtue.

Self-consciousness. How is this a virtue? Virtues have been described as that which one uses to gain or to keep things of value. It is from the virtue of self-consciousness that all other virtues arise.

Intellect. God gave humans the gift of intellect. Because of this gift, we are different from other animals and the wisest. Such a gift gives us the utmost responsibility therefore makes everything a choice. We could use that intellect for the good of the world or put it to waste . Man has intellect so that we can pick up where our creaters left off and carry on making it even better than they did.

i believe the greatest virtue of all,is self-awareness.you know your strong points and your weak points.and you work on becoming a better person.
you don't just become aware of your weaknesses.but you care enough to work on changing them.especially when your weaknesses have caused you to hurt, betray,or mistreat other people.
with self-awareness,you find out about yourself.and you discover what needs to be changed.and how you can change them.
i think that, oftentimes, relationships fail because of lack of self-awareness.people get hurt by their friends,or other people they care about.and the person who hurt them, they don't know why they did what they did.i find that, when i examine my motives for doing something,i've often done things for the wrong reason.i might have thought my motives were honorable at the time.but i soon discover that my motives were selfish, and spiteful, and driven by greed.
as long as we know our weaknesses, and we work on those weaknesses, relationships have the chance to improve.honesty, trust, sincerity, are vitally important as is self-awareness.without self-awareness,there is no honesty,or trust.self-awareness helps us see where we fail others as well as ourselves.and with that knowledge,we can improve our relationships,by working on becoming better people.

I remember a line from a movie (with Jeff Bridges playing the part of an alien, sorry I don't remember the title) in which Bridges character says, "The thing that we admire most about your species is that you are at your very best when things are at their very worst."

I always kinda liked that.

The ability to observe truth which can lead to all other virtues.

Humbleness is required to know truth, truth is required to know humility.

Thus I have said observation, both of self, and the world, all else is unknown without it.

We are observation, all else are reactive interactions.
