At work i got a one dollor gold coin but the outer ring part of the coin it doesnt say " In god we trust" . My buddie says it worth over 300 $ . How can find out< Is it really worth that much?

First of all, you need to make sure that your coin is a presidential dollar. The Sacajawea dollars do not have "In God We Trust" on the rim and so your coin would have no increased value.
If your dollar is a presidential dollar, you should be informed that there are many fakes going around. You can use this site to help you determine if your coin is legitimate or not.

1 - Take your coin to a local coin dealer (trustworthy ones can be found - shop around). It never hurts to get a second opinion. They will be able to tell you so much more by evaluation the condition of the coins. They will also know the amount minted and what it is going for in today's market.

They are certainly worth some real money. I can not tell you precisely what they are worth because it depends on such things as the dates, mint marks and condition of the coins; but here are some rough estimates $5.00 gold coin in average xf condition maybe $425-$450. $20 gold coin in average xf condition maybe $1700+. Gold coins are extremely popular at the moment and finding a buyer should not be a problem. A coin dealer will buy them from you but at about a 20% discount. He is out to make a profit. Wheat pennies are a little more difficult to give you a figure on. All are worth something but condition is even more important with them and whether they have a mint mark or not. They are also very popular with coin collectors because they are not extremely expensive. If you have dates in the 20s they might be worth at least 50 cents. Some much much more than that. 31-s at least $80. 1909 svdb is the king. Worth at least $700 and as much as thousands.

Take the coin to a coin shop and ask them what it is and how much it is worth. I don't think there are any $1 gold coins, I think they were in $5 denominations or higher. Gold is worth a lot now, if it is real it is worth $400 - $700. Remember, a coin shop will not give you as much as it is truly worth.

Sounds like either a Presidential Dollar or a Sacajawea Dollar. I think "Blue T" has some good ideas for you on this.
I'll just add that dollar coins made from real gold were made, but it was a long time ago (1849-1889 to be exact.) They were tiny. In fact the first type of these coins was the smallest US coin - ever.

On the presidential gold colored dollars the edge is where the date as well as mint mark and legends are. A coin has 3 sides the obverse, reverse and the edge. It also has a rim but there are two of them one, the obverse and one on the reverse. If the edge is blank and there are no legends then it sells for around $119. On the dollars, In God We Trust is not on the obverse or reverse just the edge. Reason is artistic license.

See if it's one of the new ones that has In God We Trust on the rim, if so it's worth a dollar. YOu could go to a book store and look it up. You need to tell us what is the date of the coin, so post that. Does it have Lady Liberty on one side and a picture of a president on the other? Does it have a lady head on one side and an eagleon the ohter? No way to tell yo without date and info. If not go to book store and look up or to a pawn shop and see. If they offer you $300, then it's worth $500 or more.
