Yes of course! I think it's all a matter of context.
When I'm at work interacting with clients, I am very professional. Very precise, no slang, informative.
When I'm with my family I am very loose and will use lots of slang, even if they're not familiar with it. But at the same time I don't swear around them.
The most amazing thing is that when I meet new people, especially people I admire or am interested in, I try to emulate them and sometimes end up sounding like them by the end of our conversation!

Certainly. You should match how you speak or write to the audience. It makes everyone comfortable and facilitates communication.
It is pretentious and bad communication to use vocabulary that your audience doesn't easily understand. On the other hand, a sophisticated audience will not appreciate your using imprecise language in the interests of talking down to them. .

It has to.
If I am conversing with intelligent and educated people I can fully use the richness of the English language.
On the rare occasions I have to talk to any of my pig-ignorant fellow citizens I have to lower my standards to their level in order to be understood.
