If you could tell me the depth of the sand and the width of the beach, then maybe I could calculate it for you.
To get the number you'd need:
- the size of each grain, or the number in a given volume (such as a cubic centimeter)
- the depth, width, and length of the beach (to give you the total volume)
You have only given one of the 4 variables needed, so no answer is possible.

Impossible to tell. The age of the beach would have to be considered, as well as the type of mineral that makes up the sand, and the size of the grain.

Um, grains of sand are 3-dimensional, first of all, so you'd have to specify how WIDE and DEEP the 1/2-mile long stretch is also.

Not to mention how fine or coarse the sand is, etc.

Much more than a googol, but far less than a googleplex. In case this is foreign to you, a googol is a number beginning with 1 and followed by 100 zeros. A googleplex is an extremely large number which is a 1 followed by a googol zeros.

that's a bit too general of a question, depends on the type of sand, the average size of the individual grains, environmental factors, etc.
