It's simply because most of the major league owners are egotistical maniacs just like the players. Some more so than others. Some have more expendible resources (cash) than others but let's face it, all of those types simply have feelings of inadequacy therefore they resort to buying the glory they never could acheive in a particular area. It's all about 'me' and they could care less if they hurt others in the process. Pitiful people in my book. Joe Torre is a class act and I applaud him for the way he handled the situation. I hope he will emerge as manager of an opposing team and beat the crap out of the spoiled brat yankees! The stupid owners paying these spoiled sports figures riddiculous salaries just drive up the cost that fans must pay to go to a game. Whatever happened to a family being able to afford to attend a game and have a hot dog without taking out a mortgage on the home.

Why don't you mention the Boston Red Sox because they spend alot of money to. The Mets. Even the Cubs last year!
No one buys a World Series! God hears your prayers and wants other teams to win for a change.
However, most teams have lost for years because they don't spend alot of money and can't build good farm systems(Royals, Pirates) and they need the help of a Josh Beckett or Alex Rodriquez, but they just can't afford them.
George has gone all out for the Yankees and the team ever since 1975.
I do agree with you that they mistreated Torre at the end of his career.
But when I think about it, there is no easy way to get rid of a manager who has been so consistent these years!

Steinbrenner is an ego-maniac who thinks he can have anything he wants if he just throws enough money at it. His shenanigans are nothing but a disruption to his team; he needs to get out of the way and let real baseball people take care of baseball matters.
Torre is a good baseball man and a class act. The treatment he received, especially at the hands of someone like Steinbrenner, is absolutely shameful.

I am a Yankee hater, but how can you say it doesn't work? He has won Series 6 times I think in 30 years - one of every five. Has anyone else even been close to that?
The 2000 years have been great for baseball, with a different champ every year. This has taken a lot of the air out of the whole salary cap discussion, for sure. But, under the rules as they exist, if you had the kind of money (and revenue stream) that the Yankees have, wouldn't you go out there and try to buy a championship every year? Would you ever want to be sitting at home in November if you had just spent the additional $10M that you keep under your pillow at night would have been the thing to push it over the top?
Glad to see him lose, but don't fault him for his actions. Hate to see baseball players make $60M for playing a game, but glad to see them getting a cut of what everyone else is willing to pay for.

That's just the power of money, and George's ego.
Major league baseball would be better off without
George Steinbrenner. Baseball needs more parity!
Just go away George, and your sons, and let us fans
enjoy the game of baseball!!!!!!

buying the world series doesnt work.... they won four of five WS with an unproven team for the most part... only when they started buying players did they not win every year...
yankees need to stay with the notion of building their farm system like they were doing in the 90's...

although George has all the money, technically the man to blame is Brian Cashman.
95% of the time he signs someone who is big, they flop.
Unlike many GM's he doesnt beliave in his farm system. he says "Oh we have all the money in the world, ill just go buy the future." sure you can do that, but you cant expect to win
