We have to recommend movies that deal with drugs for a class I'm in. So I'm looking for movies or documentaries that cover the topic somewhat. If you could give me the name of the movie and what drug or drugs it deals with, let me know. Thanks!

It's for a college class. While it can be rated R, it really shouldn't have mass amounts of nudity/sex/etc. But there is some amount of freedom in the choices of movies.

I'm not sure about suitability on some of these. I'll place a @ in front of some that might be OK for the classroom.
Candy (2006)~heroin and marijuana
Rush (1991)~heroin
The Acid House (1998)~LSD
@The Man with the Golden Arm~heroin I think
@Bigger Than Life (1956)~prescription drug~cortisone
Adaptation. (2002)~fictional drug
@Go Ask Alice (TV movie) It's very powerful, but it was shown on television several times.
Boiler Room (2000)~cocaine
8 Mile (2002)~marijuana
@Ed Wood (1994)~morphine
24 Hour Party People (2002)~Ecstasy
Alpha Dog (2007)~maijuana
The Basketball Diaries (1995)~heroin, cocaine and solvents
@Clean and Sober (1988)~cocaine
Drugstore Cowboy (1989)
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
@The French Connection (1971)~heroin and cocaine
From Hell (2001)~opium, absinthe and heroin
@Seven-Per-Cent Solution (1976)~It's about Sherlock Holmes undergoing treatment from Sigmund Freud. Holmes has to deal with withdrawal while he's working on a case.
@I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can (1982)~valium
@Walk the Line (2005)
@Ray (2004)~heroin and marijuana
@The Gene Krupa Story (1959)
@The Panic in Needle Park (1971)~heroin
Permanent Midnight (1998)~heroin (real-life story of TV writer Jerry Stahl)

If you check these films in IMDB, it likely will mention the drug. Wikipedia might, too.

Here's a list of a lot of other films, and they list the drugs, too!

"Requiem for a Dream," "Trainspotting," The Panic in Needle Park," " Drugstore Cowboy," "Traffic," "Blow." These are all great,and you can probably find hundreds if you Google "Films about drug abuse."

Edit: The previous answerer's
mention of "Rush" is fantastic;that is such a sad movie.

I'd go with the classic Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas although Candy was pretty good too..

Fear and Loathing is really fairly... "tame".. I don't remember much, if any nudity.. even swearing is only.. somewhat there.. (mostly slurred so bad you couldn't understand it if you tried)

As for what drugs.. you name it, he did it..

Half Nelson
was very good because it shows how people with drug addictions can sometimes still lead normal seeming lives.

"Requiem for a Dream". It is about drug addiction, although disturbing and graphic so most likely is not appropriate for a classroom.

It is about heroin addiction and abuse as well as pharmaceutical drug abuse.
