Where unions were once necessary to protect workers from management, they are now nothing more than a burden on the American economy. There is not one thing that a union can do that is not otherwise covered by local, state, and federal regulations. Why do you think so many jobs are being outsourced over seas? Why American (named) cars are over-priced junk? Why our children are entering high school as imbeciles? I would have to be pretty bad off to accept a union job.

Absolutely, before some of the gilded age rich nutjobs took over our country and began actively campaigning to belittle some of the main principles of our country, such as the independence America gives to each person, so that if hardworking and insightful, they can rise to any socio-economic level possible (that was done away with fairly quickly), also the idea that businesses owed loyalty and responsibility to their workers.

Anyway, yes, Unions are great for America. They allow even the lowliest working man doing the dirtiest business to have an active voice in his or her job conditions, pay, safety conditions, and other work concerns. It gives them a voice that needs to be heard.

THAT is what America is truly all about.

Necessary evil. They protect the workers from raw deals from companies who would screw them over without a union. Bad because they want too much cash which leads to overseas jobs.

I think unions were very good for America. It made us treat our employees with respect and get a decent wage.
Many times big companies would work a man to death and then when he was injured in an uncontrolled and un safe area they would just push him aside with nothing for a new employee.
Unions have helped safety in the work place in America.

This country had both unions and a strong manufacturing base for decades, as well as a growing middle class.
The notion that they cost this country jobs is absurd.
The same policies that weakened unions sent those jobs overseas. Greed and a search for a subsidence wage employee class.

Sometimes. It depends on the situation. But it would be better still if the government just was able to enforce the regulations it has on the books just to protect the public good.Like protecting the environment, safety standards, keeping everyone honest;ect.

I am a hard core Republican (read my postings). I have worked in management and marketing for food manufacturers and their contractors since 1987.

Despite the fantasy of free labor and the ability to have absolute control, I can tell you that unions a great asset to a safe food supply.

Because they help provide higher wages, they keep experienced people in their positions long enough o acquire the expertise needed to produce safe products.
