All neutral sulfur atoms have 16 protons and 16 electrons.

95.02% of sulfur atoms have 16 neutrons.
0.75% of sulfur atoms have 17 neutrons.
4.21% of sulfur atoms have 18 neutrons.
0.02% of sulfur atoms have 20 neutrons.

You are correct. If it's sulfur (S) it must have 16 protons or it wouldn't be sulfur. The atomic mass is the sum of protons and neutrons, so there are 18 neutrons. If it is a -2 (sulfide) ion it contains 2 more electrons than protons, so it has 18 electrons. Answer choice 3 is your best choice, so you are right.

While it's not recommended to use Wikipedia as a primary source, it can be useful for doing research or for obtaining facts to then verify from other sources.

As it turns out, sulfur's element number is 16, and apparently by coincidence it has that many of all three, an equal number of protons, electrons and neutrons. See the second reference below.

The third site below confirms 16 for both protons and neutrons; that page shows protons and there is a link on that page to another page on that site for neutrons as well.

The fourth confirms 16 for all three.

The fifth and sixth links show google and yahoo searches as well.

sulfur has a standard number on protons and electrons(16 of each) but because there are 18 isotopes of sulfur the protons can range from 10 to 33 although on the ones with 16, 17, 18, and 20 are stable. also remember the electrons are seperated in three clouds (2,8,6) which the later two I think have sub-clouds but your teacher probably will only give extra credit for that.

The atomic number tells you how many protons are in this element. The atomic weight minus the atomic number (rounded down if it's a decimal) will give you the amount of neutrons. The charge of the element says how many electrons: if it's a neutral charge (no charge, 0) then it's the same amount as the protons. If it's +1, then there is one more proton than electrons, -1 it's one more electron than protons, etc.

Sulphur has 16 protons and 16 electrons. It has between 16 and 20 neutrons, depending on the isotope. Sulphur with 16 neutrons is the most common isotope and sulphur with 19 neutrons is the only unstable isotope with a half life of 87.32 days

yeah sulfur has 16 each of protons, electrons, and neutrons

well the atomic number is 16 so that is your protons/electrons
the atomic mass - atomic number = NEUTRONS
(AM - AN = N)
