–2(x – 7) = –8

solve the equation:
lets do left side first
mult the -2 with x and -7
you have -2x+14 (dont forget -- is +)
now left side is -2x + 14 and right side is -8
lets put them together
-2x+14 = -8

move the 14 to right side so subtract 14 from both sides

-2x + 14 - 14 = -8 - 14

-2x = -22, then divide -2 from both sides, you dont want to divide x since you dont know if x =0 or not, and you can divide 0.

(-2 / -2) x = (-22 / -2) i put ( and ) so you dont get confuse with x' position
Now,

x= 11

Lets do it faster again,
–2(x – 7) = –8

-2x + 14 = -8

-2x = -22

x = 11

Step 1: Write out the original equation
-2(x-7)= -8

Step 2: Multiply -2
-2x +14= -8

Step 3: Isolate the variable
22 = 2x

Step 4: Divide both sides by 2
x = 11

It's easier to divide both sides by -2 first, then add 7 to both sides:

-2 (x - 7) / (-2) = -8 / (-2)
= x - 7 = 4

x - 7 + 7= 4 +7
= 11

–2(x – 7) = –8 multiply -2 times each number, or variable in the parenthesis
-2x-(-14)=-8 the subtracting a negative is really addition
-2x+14=-8 now try to isolate the variable subtract 14 from each side
-2x=-8-14 combine like terms
-2x=-22 divide by -2 to isolate the x
x=-22/-2 when you divide negative by negative you get positive
x=11

-2(x - 7)= -8
-2x - -2*7 = -8
-2x + 14 = -8
-2x + 14 - 14 = -8 - 14
-2x = -22
-2x/-2 = -22/-2
x = 11

-2(11 - 7) = -8
-2 * 4 = -8
-8 = -8

open the brackets first.
-2(x-7) becomes (-2 times x)+(-2 times -7)=-2x+14=-8
-2x+14=-8
-2x=-8-14=-22
(-2x)/-2=(-22)/-2
x=11

-2(x-7)= -8
-2x + 14 = -8
-2x + 14-14=-8-14
-2x/-2= -22/-2
x= 11

1) distribute in the -2: -2x+14=-8
2) subtract 14 from both sides: -2x=-22
3) now divide by negative two to get your answer: x=11

Use the distributive property.
-2x + 14 = -8
Subtract 14 from both sides of the equation.
-2x = -22
x = 11
