OK if you want thin, and reliability - get rid of that "cheap" idea...its like saying you want a Mercedes but dont want to pay more than $10K.
Toshiba, and HP, and Dell make nice laptops that arent expensive in most configs. DONT GET A COMPCRAP, i mean Compaq

You want a laptop with an AMD processor. They're normally cheaper than Intel and run better. Vista was developed to use with AMD. Plus, you want a lot of memory and the option to add more. Get the best you can afford. Dell has some really good deals on some good laptops. I support over 1000 laptops. We use Gateway and Dell. I haven't had a single problem with Dell, but many with Gateway.

try HP or for more affordability compaq. they have the same maker anyway. if you're willing to shell out a few more bucks, get an apple. these laptops are all ok but the apple runs a worry free operating system & has geat entertainment programs.

GO MAC,AND YOU WILL NEVER WANT TO GO BACK! Mac's are the best, they can do anything. There pretty thin work great, and come with everything you need. The only problem is it starts at $1,000. But, slim is all sony right now. Those should be pretty cheap.
