I respond.
The question of intelligent or unintelligent has nothing to do with me responding.
I hope I respond intelligently, but that is a judgment call.
And while it may seem that there are stupid questions, someone will always make that accusation.
So i respond and hope for the best.
BTW, the war of 1812 actually started in 1811 and no one is buried in Grant's tomb.

To some degree. To communicate one must have two goals in mind. 1) to send out a clear an precise message. and 2) For the receiver to understand this message clearly and precisely. I will "dumb down" when I have to but, just to the point that my message is received clearly. If the intention is to show how intelligent you are, then the focus is not on the receiver understanding the context but the "message" (which is, look at me, aren't I amazingly smart?). That's not communication, since a return response is voided. Communication requires a message and feed back. Thanks, gives me a great question to ask in R&S to stir up some coals ; )

I just am myself. I do make an effort to use the terms & language a person is acustomed to if only to help with understanding. I try not to make judgement calls on level of intelligence, finding that ability to learn sometimes can confused with lack of education. Besides, many times I feel I am the lessor educated when speaking with many people. Thanks

Sometimes I do, though I'm trying not to be sarcastic any more if they ask really stupid questions. The best policy is either to answer the question in a helpful and informative way, or to skip over to the next question.

No. I can't stand people that need step by step instructions to help out. Common sense will tell you it's something you got to do everyday! Beds made, all the domestic chores.
