I love the name Rhun, but unfortunately, he probably will get teased at school. Try using it as a middle name. I think Jonathan Rhun is a cute name. Good luck.

Is it pronounced "Run" or "Rune"? If you are the least bit worried about him being teased at school, then don't use that name. However, lots of kids today have unusual names. If you are really stuck on that name, then ask children of friends, or kid you see while shopping, etc., what they think of the name. Kids are brutal and they will tell you straight. If you get a majority of negative reactions, that should give you the info you need to do the right thing for your son.

Teased? Please, kids always find a way to tease about a name, even if it's John. But, Rhun is a strange name...sounds like Celtic fortune telling. At least young kids don't know what Runes are.

For a parent to choose a name of another culture and language, my choice would be to place it as a middle name. That way you can avoid confusion and explanations and teasing in this culture.
When I look for a male's first name I use these criteria:
Does it fit well with the last name, easy to pronounce together.
Does it sound masculine? (often hard consonants associate with maleness)
Is it easy to say and not too hard to write or spell and not more than 2 syllables?

Maybe you could name him Prince Rhun. I do think he will get teased about it. Perhaps, it could be a middle name.

He'll hate you for it, and his whole life he'll have to tell people how to pronounce it. It might seem cool to you, but think about the kid and the adult that he will be. Think of him as a professional with the name Rhun....hard to imagine right???

Sounds like something out of Star Trek...if you are worried about him getting teased, well then don't name him Rhun.
To be honest, these sort of names; knowing people who have these sort of names; end up changing them or using a different more formal name because they don't like it.
