To the sock hop

Didja ever notice how your silverware drawer seems to fill up with those little tie twisters? You probably think that has nothing to do with missing socks, but it does.

Those socks that go missing aren't really socks, they are the larval form of an alien life form that happen to look like socks. They abduct socks out of your drawer, and then take on the appearance of that sock, and we're none the wiser. Until they morph into their second stage, during which they look like the tie twisters, and suddenly you are minus a sock, but there are now extra tie twisters in the silverward drawer.

Even the tie twisters aren't the adult form, but no one has been able to document what the fully grown alien looks like. But take it from me, if you go long enough without putting any tie twisters in the drawer, one day you'll open the drawer and the tie twisters will be gone. I am not making this up.

The sock/underwear gnomes get them. They come in through the dryer hose and while the dryer is still running. It is also a way for them to get a little thrill ride.

There is also a sock ogre that takes them, from time to time. I figure it must be an ogre (or a troll) because they have BIG feet. And once in a very great while they will bring back and they (the socks) will stretched out way too big to fit my feet!

There is a rim around the top of the machine tub. They will actually spin around and go into the outer chamber of the machine. Eventually, this will ruin your washer. The best methods of washing socks is to put them in a mesh bag. Wow! No more missing socks.

Socks are really expensive to make nowadays. So to sell them cheaply, they install a little "return to factory" device that when activated causes the sock to instantly teleport back to the factory. The factory can then sell this sock again and again.
