I have 2 IP addresses, let me say I 201.123.1.x and 201.123.2.x . Then I have 9 medium rooms with about 24 computers. My big bro wants me to make the networks in each room independent from each other through subnetting.

How does subnetting work? Can you please provide references?
Thanks!Ü

Home subneting? That is weird!! Subneting is useful when you have more than 254 devices that need ip addresses, if not, it does not make too much sense (and it is VERY difficult).
Anyway, try this place http://www.learntosubnet.com/ or this one http://www.exabyte.net/lambert/subnet/subnet_masking_summary.htm

Ask your bro to give you a break, or ask him to do it :-)

using a subnet mask of 255.255.255.224 on each network range will give you a total of 16 network IDs and up 30 hosts on each network.
256-224=32 so 201.123.1.0-32 32-64 64-96.... the first address is the network ID the last is the broadcast ID so for example valid hosts IDs 32-64 are 33-62
just keep adding by 32 till 255
