Yes. They are called the FARs (Federal Air Regulations). It'll also cut down on drunk flying. Ma Nature takes no prisoners, it is a pass fail test. I tried flying, once after a couple of drinks. That 12000 foot long, 200 feet wide runway was **** hard to hit. Never did that again, and wouldn't unless I was the only pilot for the last plane out of Saigon. I have no idea how Boyington and crew did it.
Incidentally, I am working on a different technique to build a useful aerocar. One of us is going to get it right, eventually.

A flying vehicle (and there have been many, many tries) promises the worst of the two worlds, a awful plane, and a awful vehicle. the difficulty is, and has constantly been which you will nevertheless could desire to become a pilot (no longer an low-value subject to do). upload to that the guidelines, and the certainty you may maximum in all probability nevertheless could desire to take off and land at airports (no flying to artwork!) makes this complicated at maximum suitable. the only way may well be a entire revamp of the air site visitors administration device (good success it nevertheless makes use of kit from the 60's) alongside with defining what type that's in etc. do no longer look for it any time quickly (the main contemporary one I observed in Europe value over 200k).

The whole thing would probably be controlled by signal beacons attached to buildings. You still have pretty much free reign of flight, but the car would automatically stop at a 'red light'. Think about how trains operate, on their tracks. This is how I would expect these cars to operate. Free flight, on a multitude of different set courses. Except you get the added dimension of being able to go up/down to avoid jams.
Also, I doubt many police officers will be able to come and disturb me getting laid on the roadside, when the roadside is so high above the ground. I'll miss that. I usually manage to get them to join in.

There will be all sorts of rules to cover flying cars, but I don't think there would be traffic lights.
With the introduction of the third dimension, vehicles would simply cross over or under one another.
Once you get out of the high rise areas, you would have lanes heading to your district, and then like fingers on a splayed hand, minor routes to your neighbourhood.

You will be directed by an expanded air traffic control system, to prevent you flying into other cars, for starters, but also to keep you out of the reserved aircraft spaces. I think flying cars will not be allowed, period, until they can be remotely controlled to prevent people, stupidly, or stubbornly, flying where they shouldn't, or even falling asleep or ill, and flying into an airliner.

i think that there would be invisible roadways (to the naked eye) which would only be detected by the onboard computer and shown probably on the windscreen of the car, and hence where there are roadways there are trafficlights. so we will have to follow the traffic rules of the air.
and if there would be such a thing as flying cars i think the computer would take care of all the flying, making us just passengers.

Who cares? I just want my flying car! When I was a kid growing up in the 50's and 60's everyone said that by the year 2000 there would be flying cars. So where are they? I want one. NOW! ;-)
