Because of the tremendous length of travel, Europe was able to recognize a more vast geographical knowledge of the Middle East or Near Asia, brought back many new ways to increase the flavor of food through the use of spices and preservation of trade and increased trade did occur as Europe would trade their finery for spices and other goods only found in the Middle East at the times of the Crusades.
