...see, here's the thing; granted, the separate releases of "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof", extended vewrsions and all, has been agreed pretty much by all, as a way to suck more money from the general public, many of which will probably,,,scratch that, definately buy the full (...original theatrical of) version of "Grindhouse"...
...if I was the distributor of the DVD, and were to release these films to the overall appeal of the general public, and still garnish the same monies for the folks over at Dimension, without appearing as if I was greedily sucking money from the DVD-buying masses, I would have released the original theatrical version of "Grindhouse" first, and play up a story that the 'missing reels' were destroyed, or stolen or something...sorta make the lost footage something like the stuff of cinematic urban legend...
...then, a couple of years later, I would THEN release the separate DVDs of "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof", in their extended versions, playing up yet another story, that the footage was found in some abandoned film storage warehouse, or somebody's basement, or something...
...in this way, the studio still makes it's money, and the general public is convinced that they are getting something special, without necessarily getting ripped off and suckered...
...a good scenario, but obviously, that is not what's happening; what is clear, is that the studio wants it's money...now, Now, NOW!!!
...the greedy bastards!!!

I haven't seen it yet, but I would imagine that the "REEL MISSING" scene has been replaced. That's what they did in DEATH PROOF.
