The bike is a 1980 Suzuki GS 750 E model. It will start and idle with the choke pulled all the way out, but when I twist the accelerator it stalls out. Also it wont run or start if the choke isnt pulled all the way out even after it warms up. A friend of mine disassembled the carbs and cleaned them. What I want to know is it possible that it is a firing issue? Maybe the floats are bad? I dont know that much about this sort of thing. Maybe someone out there does. Any suggestions on what I need to check would be much appreciated. I do have a little mechanical know how I just dont know bikes.

The intake manifolds may be dry rotted. Unless they've been replaced at least twice on a 27 year old bike I can guarantee that they're cracked and sucking air.

so many places to start...
how did the plugs look? take a plug reading and start there.
when were the carbs last rebuilt with new rubber? I can am sure that you have some cracked boots / seals in there somewhere if they are original. Were the carbs re-synced whem you put them back on the bike?
It sounds like a fueling problem. Buy a shop manual, and get ready to spend some time, or pay someone to fix it.

Check your fuel system first. Make sure that there are no blockages in the gas tank, petcock, fuel filter, fuel lines, or carburetor. You may even want to clean your carbs again and pay close attention to fuel passages and float valves.
Then check for vacuum leaks. The most likely place is the carb boots going to the inlet area of the motor. And some bikes also have a vacuum hose going to the fuel petcock. If there is any leakage from these items, you need to stop it.
Also check air filter and intake.

Check gas filter, air breather, pull the plugs and gap at .30if the plugs are bad put in new ones.
Sounds like a carb problem and the needles may hafto be replaced.ONE IT RUNS A LITTLE TAKE IT TO A BIKE SHOP.
it's starved for gas because you hafto use the chock to keep it running.you probably need new
points, and the timing set at the point plate.

It is possible that you have an intake airleak problem. However, I suspect that your friend did not do a thorough carb clean. Have them cleaned by a professional.

start it with the choke out... as soon as it starts up, put the choke halfway in. then let it warm up for a few minutes. then slowly put the choke in all the way and try the throttle. Also what may be happening is the carburetor may need cleaned out. That is if what I told you doesn't work.

Your friend may not have cleaned the carbs adequately enough.
Get them professionally cleaned.
