For me it was 1992. I wasn't of age to vote in the primary, so it was the main election in November.

My first vote was in 1968. That was the year that there was a referendum to give the vote to 18 year-olds, so it was kinda historic. It was also a year when the country was very polarized about the Vietnam War, and there were anti-war factions in both major parties, and numerous independents on the California ballot where I voted.
I can't remember if I voted for McGovern or McCarthy ?

This is not pre-election for me. I vote by mail and I'm done. I voted Obama. There was a time I had respect for McCain. I was really bummed when W. beat him the 2000 primaries. Even if I disagree with him, I felt that I could at least have a president that I respected. That is not the case with him any more. His pandering and dirty politics have just turned him into another politician whose view I disagree with more than Obama's. He's also losing a lot of points with me on his inability to control his campaign. The terrorist, arab, Muslim spin that is intended to cause fear amongst ignorant Americans has gotten out of control to a degree that McCain is having to correct his supporters at rallies. Good that he is taking action, bad that it ever got that way. Now the McCain campaign is complaining that they can't control Palin and the things she is saying. Wasn't that the first presidential decision he had to make? Didn't he have tons of time to make it? Now they seem to be saying it wasn't a good decision. Obama may not have as much experience, but he'll gain it fast and learn. McCain is claiming the experience, but isn't showing that it helps him to make a good decision. Edit: by the way single issue abortion folks. Some leading Catholic figures have come out for Obama. They've realized that abortion isn't going away, but the best way to lower abortion rates is through social policies. Obama's social policies will lead to better education, economic stability, ability to feed and raise a family, so therefore lower the abortion rate. Marriage is not natural. It is a social contract. Contracts are modern inventions. Sex is natural. Look at the animal kingdom and there is homosexual activity amongst lots of species. So you can't say homosexuality is not natural. So why bar people engaging in what is natural activity from participating in a modern invention? Barring gays from marriage is no less discriminatory from barring women and people of color voting rights or freedom of speech.

I voted for Jerry Brown in the 1976 Democrat Primary. Later I voted for Carter, I'm ashamed to say. That was the last time in my life I voted for a Democrat.
