can sperm grow or live anywhere besides where they are formed?

When fish spawn, the female lays the eggs, and the male lets loose sperm to mix with them. The sperm are free in the water for a period of time.

sperm are intended to live in the reproductive organs of the male and of the female, once depositied there (but for a much shorter time there, as it's not a really hospitable environment for them, just barely bearable).... they do not live long in other places... unless, like above, it's fish we're talking about... human sperm dies rather quickly outside either human body....
