At my school it seems like on average girls are smarter than guys, but the really smart people are almost exclusively male.

Your observation that "the really smart people are almost exclusively male."
Could it be because recognition for intelligence is granted to males by males in a position to grant recognition?
Or perhaps Social and Cultural norms discourage females from displaying intelligence and reward them for physical attractiveness instead?
I think that it is the lack of recognition and social/cultural pressures.

I guess you have never heard of Marilyn VosSavant who, for many years, had the highest recorded IQ.

It is not that the really smart people are men. You only think that because men are still the ones being brought into the formerly ALL male world of higher academics and research. They are letting the "chicks" into the Physics departments now but let's face it, women have highly developed left AND right brain function. That means we CAN walk and chew gum at the same time...while we are running a company, a household, growing a baby in our uterus, acting as therapist, guidance counselor, art teacher, referee and chief executive stain remover and we can still knock guys socks off in the bedroom as the greatest lover on Earth. Men are linear thinkers and they are either thinking about sex or something else...one thing at a time. We think multi dimensionally.

Which is why extra terrestrials will be much more interested in females than males. Besides, men still have a large portion of their violent reptile brain leading the way which is obvious by the constant conflict all over the planet. Women do not use their children as shields, decoys or bomb delivery systems. Men do.

Now what was that you were saying about who is smarter?

Who said that? They're are actually more women that are smarter just that its a mans world and they dont have the advantage that men do. Statistically, men get hired for a business position instead of women. Just the ignorance of men. they are also recognized more, although there are many succesful women. Learn the facts before talking.

YUP! And thats a good thing.
No thats a BEAUTIFUL thing:)

I don't see many women building Towers and sky scrapers and I hope I never see that day, plus men have contributed towards 99% of every invention known to man.

Men are so much more powerful than us women, thank GOD.
Just looking at them is enough for me:)

Okay I have to go because I'm feeling very warm just talking about those strong beautiful creatures.

why yes we are...have you ever met a woman who didnt think so??? if so its all an act! lol

J/k I was being a smart ***...

No that is just the statistics at your school. Doesn't mean girls are smarter than guys..and grades don't always determine how smart a person is, but how hard they work to get good grades.

I have taught hands-on marine science on a boat. When we get middle school and high school all-girl classes, they participate, handle animals from the net, have great fun learning. When they are mixed with boys, they dumb-down - don't want to make those boyfriends and future husbands feel inferior!!

It's a societal problem, more prevalent in some societies than others, but present in all.

i dont agree with that. i think in history males have just had more opportunities to excel academically than girls. Women had to fight to prove that they are as smart as men, and i believe they have. I do think men are better at certain subjects, but by no means are superior. In my English 10 Honors class, there are 17 girls and one guy, so what does that say?

Uh, no.

If you use the male-centered, sexist, racist Stanford-Binet model of intelligence, then men probably could be considered "smarter". But if you think outside the box, both genders are geniuses in equal numbers. Oh yeah, and that includes all races, too.

Not necessarily, but I think girls often try to shove guys out of the spotlight when guys ARE smarter.

girl's brains tend to develop the part that deduces consequences faster than boys. so they're more likely to focus better and get better grades, but smarts aren't dependent on gender.
