Natural disasters are not random acts of God. What would be the point? If he were displeased, I believe his aim would be much better. If it is truly random, then God is a kid working with his version of an ant farm.

No. The earth is constantly changing. The tectonic plates are always moving. This alone causes changes on the surface of the planet. As long as we build places to live and work we are at risk of a disaster.

They are natural occurrences, not exactly random. There is order and cause-effect in all things that happen in nature. And your second explanation is the correct one- all things that happen in nature happen for a reason and work towards balance. Death and destruction being a necessary part of life and creation.
