for the word punitive i made a sentence-
the company was required to pay punitive damages to the family.

is that correct??

i also need help with making a sentence with the word

Apropos your question:'Did I do this right?' in Yahoo Answers, I would say that your sentence using 'punitive' is correct.
Another example:
Apropos the shortest route to the airport, the highway going north would be the best.

yes, it is correct and you could say : It is not apropos to wear short shorts to a school prom.
