I wish that was true. Culture did not shape my sexuality. I was not raised in around anything that accepted gay or bisexuality. I was always taught that it was wrong and it had nothing to do with religion. My family is NOT religious. I always had a desire for boys and girls and still do. I have tried to keep it for the opposite sex and have attempted so many ways to reorient my sexuality to heterosexual but it has all failed. I firmly believe there is a biological part involved that we do not understand yet. There is a lot in science that we cannot explain. Yes, I also believe culture does influence our thinking but there is also some biological influence.

Biologically, we are all alike. The prime directive is to survive. The second directive is to procreate. How we manage these directives, is a function of the values instilled in us.
The biological aspects, of survival and sexuality, are manifested in the Id. Cultural values are manifested in the Super Ego. Individual Egos struggle with their Id, keeping it in check, in accordance with the cultural values programmed in the Super Ego.

There are no fast and hard answers for your question (which is still debated) but what I can share is my life experience.
I come from a Christian family (Protestant Evangelicals).
I was schooled in Baptist institution.
I'm gay.
In the end, the process isnt so much of interest to me anymore. knowing HOW i 'became' gay is of less interest to me than knowing I am one and what will I do with my life, knowing this fact.
