I recently discovered in tennis that a player can score more points than the opponent but still lose the match.

Example: The winner of the match won his 3 sets by a score of 6-4 and won each game (game to 40).

While the "loser" won his 2 sets 6-0 and won each game (game to love).

Mathematically, the winner actually won less points in the overall match than the guy who lost.

It sounds crazy. What do you think? And do you think this is a common occurrance?

The point is... You have to win the important points.

Or you could lose more games but still win
example
Player 1 6 1 6 1 6 = 20
Player 2 4 6 4 6 4 = 24

I've seen it happen a few times on the pro tour. For example I remember the commentator saying that Martin and Moya had won the same number of points when Martin was down 2 sets to none. He lost both sets in tiebreakers. People normally don't look at the number of points, but I think it happens more often than most people think.

for an example, player "A" wins the first set say, 6-2. Then player "B" wins the second set 6-5. Then player "B" wins in the tiebreaker 10-8. player "B" wins because he/she won in a tiebreaker. whereas player "A" won more games overall.
12-7. And yes, it is quite common.

This happens in the USA Presidential election, one can win the most popular # of votes but if the other wins the most electoral votes, poof, he loses, I hate it too and have come upon several situations like this and I am very competitive but my friend taught me something wise a long time ago, "life isn't fair' I still choke on it but know after 56 years, how true it is.

yes, this can happen. i think what's important in playing matches is how you play the critical and important points. that's how to win the match.
