It wasn't a philosopher was a novelist named Nikos Kazantzakis, in a novel named the Last Temptation of Christ, which later became a movie, you can find it on chapter 18, an the all sentence goes like this
The doors of heaven and hell are adjacent, and identical: both green, both beautiful. Take care, Adam! Take care! Take care!

I don't know what philosopher said that, but it sounds like a Buddhist concept. I do agree. I think it's related to - "you can't have one without the other." It's the reason someone "loves" another so much, that he/she kills the "loved" one he/she can't have. Heaven and Hell are merely 2 sides of the same coin. We can't truly see or understand if we are attached to one side of things.
