I am 45 and I'm noticibly shorter than I used to be. someone explained that the squishy stuff in your spine compresses as you get older and you get shorter. well, I'm not really happy about the idea and I'm trying to stretch more and I want to know what I can do to regain whatever I may have lost. pretty silly I know.
thanks

Ya, I think it's the fluid that's in the discs in between the vertabre that you're talking about. As you age they get a little less spongey and lose thickness. Each one may only be losing a very little bit, but together they all add up to somewhat reduced height. What the doc's told me was to do walking excercises and stair climbing. The pumping action created by simpliy walking works the discs like a sponge and they can regain some elasticity.

Astronauts who spend a while in zero-G typically return to earth a couple of inches taller then when they left. Unfortunately, it's only a temporary effect. Don't know of anything else that could help! Maybe platform shoes?

sorry but you can't really help that. there are like ramps that you can buy with a slight incline that you lay on with your legs higher than your head, but i'm not sure if those actually work or not

It happens to nearly everyone.. or maybe it is everyone. im sure you didnt shrink much, relax. is height really that important to you? maybe it is. but if so, see a doctor, ask them. :)
