I know I have 30 days to add baby, but after he/she is born will he/she be covered? Is it possible that I can start the coverage before the baby is born? and if so how will I go about it. I know I need to call them, I get home so late they are always closed, so eventually I will get a live person.

Someone was telling me about KidCare also, I don't qualify for any state aid so what is the procedure for applying? Is my income taken into consideration? and how soon after birth will it start?

OMG-with my first baby, we were new to Blue Cross and I didn't know I had to call them before I went into the hospital to get a PRE-AUTHORIZATION NUMBER. They almost didn't pay my hospital bill!!! I don't know if they still do things that way, but you MUST find the time to call them during business hours, tell them you are having a baby soon, and ask what you need to do. A lot of states are now offering low-cost health insurance for kids-your OB should have information about how to enroll at their office. If you don't see it out in the waiting area, ask.

U need to alert the ins company (u should have an agent or rep u can call personally). within 30 days andt hey have to cover EVERYTHING. If u wait past the 30 days however, they can opt what ot cover. Whatever u do, make darn sure u get it done fast bc the longer u wait the more of a pain it will be.
I have BCBS but finaly qualify for state aid so thankfully have that cover my maternity, however, my new baby will be on my husbands insurance (bc u cant have ins and qualify for the state ins for children.) BUT u might want to double check bc i just found out my state offers a program in which they pay your insurance premiums! So u may want to check into that!
Your state medicaid office will have all the info. good luck!

I agree with what Stephanie B and Shannon said, the only thing that I'll add is that you should be able to find the form you need on their website. Or, if you use an agent (which is what we do) call him/her and they'll fill out the form for you and you just have to sign it, they can even have it ready to go before you give birth, then just fill in the details and file it after the birth. As long as you do it within 30 days it will cover back to the moment of birth and you won't have to deal with any pre-existing clause.

I had BC/BS when my daughter was born. They are covered right from birth, but you have to notify them of the birth within 30 days. If you fail to notify them within 30 days of the birth then you may not only have trouble adding them (you may have to wait until the next enrollment period), but they also don't have to cover any of the care they have recieved up to that point. You can't have babies covered before birth because technically they are not really people yet, just like you can't claim them on taxes until they are actually born.

As far as KidCare goes... I am not familiar with it so I can't help there...

I too, have BCBS of MI, and I don't think that they are all that bad, your child will be covered from the time he/she is born. You do need to call them and let them know to add him to your policy. If your employer provides the insurance you'll need to notify someone in your HR dept, because there is a form that they'll fill out for you. BCBS won't add your child to the policy without the proper forms, trust me I know from experience. They'll also want his SS# which you won't get for about 6 weeks, so you'll need to give them that # once you receive it. Your policy should also cover 4 well baby checks the first year at 100% and then I believe 1 visit a year after that. Ask your employer for a hand book, they should have one.

Your baby is covered for 30 days starting the minute she/he is born. You have time to add her/him after they are born. They will need to know the birthdate and name etc so you have to wait til they are born and also my hospital notified the insurance company when she was born I don't know if that is standard but they did because they knew I was going to add her. So don't worry about calling them now because the baby isn't here. The baby will be covered for 30 days. Just add her within that 30 days. Good luck and congrats!!!

Technically, the infant's scientific costs are lined below mom's id# for the 1st thirty days. you could not start up the assurance earlier the infant's born because of the fact the plan desires a reproduction of the start certificates and data of the infant's SSN. this might take in to eight weeks to return in. hence, this is clever to start up the workplace work along with your organization interior each and every week after start. particularly situations claims are denied interior the intervening time, often while the infant's approximately 5 or 6 weeks previous, yet as quickly as the infant's formally added to the plan, you could call the assurance company and ask them to reprocess the claims after which you may not be caught with the charges. so some distance as "KidCare" plans, you may seem into that along with your state's branch of social centers. varied them are earnings based, yet this is particularly situations purely for what the top rate fee quantities. back, it would be the 4-8 weeks or so after start, yet your state's social centers human beings ought to greater useful answer that for you.
