It's never too early.

He means a lot to me and is always there for me. He's amazing and I admire and respect him so much. I want to show him how I feel about him.

And honestly, I do not know what to get him.

I don't know how into being creative you are but you have lots of time if you start on it now, but it really doesn't take that much time. One year, I made this really cool book for my Dad. First, I wrote down all the things I liked about my Dad and fun or meaningful memories I had with him. I bought a small scrapbook notebook. Then I used stickers and cool paper (can find at Walmart) to describe that moment, for example, print out or in cool handwriting write: "When we went fishing and didn't catch anything" and decorate the page with a fishing pole and so on. My Dad loved it, he's a big man's man and he teared up and it sits by his recliner and he said he reads it when he's feeling down.

What does he like and what are his interests? Try to find a neat card that says exactly how you feel--then let him know that you picked this card out because it says the things you want him to know. Maybe a gift certificate for his favorite store, or a restaurant certificate where he could enjoy a great meal. Maybe a magazine subscription that he enjoys--so he can think of you every month when he receives his magazine. Anything you can think of to make his life easier and more enjoyable. He is fortunate to have a child like you too.

Dear LaLa, it won't matter what you get him if it comes from your heart. Being your Father, he will know what is in your heart based on who you are, and he should know best because it sounds like he had a lot to do with raising you to be who you are.

My own children each have their own personalties and I can tell you that each gives in a different way, one makes things for me while another will buy me things she thinks I can use.

Go with your heart, he will love whatever you give him, mostly because it is from you. Trust your heart.

Good Luck

a tie? like no way. I would observe him then decide what he likes to do best. If it is fishing get him like this fish hook lures. If you have a lot of money to spend get him a glam new rod. If he likes to work with computers i suggest a new mouse. Think about it and pick something he likes but make sure its not too expensive!

if you want to try something that wont cost much and will be talked bout for a long time, try a memory audio or video tape. its a simple thing really. all you have to do is ciruculate an audio or video tape around his family and friends and have them talk to him about their most memorable moment or funny story with him. then add yours. the anecdotes and memories he will cherish for a long time and it will make you special even more in his heart knowing you cared.

take him out on a date. Dinner and a movie, a sporting event, a play or a concert. There is nothing better than the gift of your time.

developmentally, Parents who are already in their late 60s and above appreciate having family and friends with them. They also love to travel. so, I suggest you host a party somewhere by the beach or somewhere he likes (a camping trip maybe) with your family and some of his closest friends. Acknowledge how important he is to you and give him a big hug.

Is there something that he really has an interest in (for example, if he likes sports, get him something representing his favorite sports team). Is it something that he may need? (pajamas?) Or maybe something you have seen while looking around in stores and when you spotted it you immediately thought about him
