It is a hard shell of anywhere from about 1 to 2 inches thick. Inside this shell is a ropey, net like fibrous area with seeds. That part is slimy. It is hollow, but the hollow is not empty. There is , however, a lot of space between the loops of the "guts" of the pumpkin.

A pumpkin is solid and full of seeds, you can dry them out and eat them they are very good roasted. You can also fry the pumpkin its very good but very few people do that anymore and of course those pumpkin pies yummmy.

Technically it is HOLLOW...after you get through the rind it is just seeds, however the rind IS like 2 inches thick, the middle is HOLLOW.
Good question.

I think a pumpkin is solid...that's why when you carve it you have to take out the seeds & "guts" as we call them.

It has a lot of seeds and pulp inside which you scoop out. Very easy to do.

Have you ever carved one, it is full of goopy seedy slimy stuff that would definitely not make it hollow.
