teddyballgame - I find it completely hilarious that you use the name "teddyballgame" yet are bashing on Sox fans. Do you have ANY clue who Teddy Ball Game was? Let me fill you in - it's Ted Williams of the Red Sox.

This question is asked all the time and alot of people still don't understand the pine tar on the helmet. It's not put ON the helmet then used to get a grip. It's put on the bat first, then the player grips the bat with his batting gloves, THEN it finds it's way to the helmets when the players adjust it with their gloves.

Why are some of the Red Sox batting helmets all burned at the front?

The Helmets aren't burned, it's simple Pine tar, a brown substance players use on their bats to get a better grip.

Players now are putting pine-tar on helmets, because it is a "cool" new look to Major League Baseball.
Some Players don't put it on their helmets on purpose, sometimes the players, while on the process of putting it on their bats, touch their helmets and the Pinetar sticks to the helmet.

I have no problem with it, especially if the player is hitting over .300.

It's Pine Tar that they use for a grip on the bat. Over time some of it finds its way to the helmet as they take it off and put it on.

It's been said a thousand times, but it's pine tar. It's an adhesive substance. You can also see it on the majority of natural colored bats. While the trend started accidentally, it is almost always intentional now. Usually, they put pine tar there, and use a rosin bag to help dry it up.

Yeah, soxak. Great "tradition". Been around forever, like a couple years. If it's pine tar that makes them "great", they need something else. And it's not just the Red Sox that do it, it's all of baseball. And they didn't start it. Another example of why Sox fans are the most arrogant in baseball. The fans that have been around for a long time don't know how to handle winning (ONCE- three years ago), and the new fans think they're the center of the universe. WHEN they stop winning, things will be back to normal in Beantown and noone will care- again.
