I have an optical mouse and the light keeps on going out, and eventually freezes in place requiring a reboot.
Any suggestions please.
I am new to computers, but not an idiot.

Blondie FEMMEALABUSHE is a friend of ours and that was a joke between us and she needs a Bushwacking or a longue lashing, and I am looking forward to that later.

H-man, on a serious side now ... I know, I know, U don't believe it, but FYRE knew it was coming (or she got notice and sent me an email Sat afternoon-my time). It is a sad day when they do that to someone who has been here & quite active in contributing to the community. Hopefully, she won't be deleted entirely & come back reincarnated, perhaps like the Phoenix arising up from the ashes? We can only hope!!!
As to your mouse problem -- sounds like you have a short - or a line/pin is broken. U said it was a corded mouse, so is it USB (flat rectangle U plug in) or a PS2 (round with pins in it)?
All Good Suggestions from the others above, but additionally check the wire connection attached to the top of the mouse -- gently push it into the mouse, maybe 1 or 2 mm, just enough to ensure it wasn't stretched & put too much of a strain on the wire at the connection inside. Does the light go out only while it is being manipulated, or does it just go out when it wants to? If it is sporadic, & you've checked all the connections & cleaned it -- get a new mouse. --Your cat will love U for it! (U know me, I couldn't resist!)

Muy Hombre H-man,
'Tis so sad but I too know how it was when we didn't have Answers to fall back on to answer these questions for us.
I spent hours trying to get simple answers to questions through other channels and got pages, way over my head to get simple answers.
Ihope you can work things out love. I think I would miss seeing you daily.
And I see Yamster has hit Fyre & Reign as well today, so it is a sad day here for us and those in the US also.
Keep your powder dry.

I agree with po boy, you may have bad/weak batteries if it's a cordless mouse or you just plain need a new one. I have had a Dell computer for over a year with an optical mouse and never had any trouble with it.

Hi H-Man, I wish I'd known about your problem a couple of hours ago--when my married, computer-whiz son was over here. It is too late to phone him; they are most likely sleeping now. If you haven't found a solution by tomorrow, I will phone him then.
I'm with Dune regarding the terrible thing that happened to our mutual friend, today...I hope it is just a mistake due to the act of an irresponsible reporter.

I don't know how old your mouse is, but I had one that kept freezing because it had a lot of dust inside.

You might be pressing the scroll button when you scroll. If you press it you can scroll just by moving the mouse in the direction you want.

You didn't say wire or wireless. If it's wireless i would say a new battery if it's wired i would say a new mouse. Nothing last forever.
