I believe it is two things, the first being one who is exempt from death, like Dracula. The second is someone who will always be remembered because of the legacy they created during their brief tenure on earth, like Abraham Lincoln or Helen Keller and many others.

Immortality is having an eternal life. However, we may be very old then but still we may hardly believe immortality. Come to think of this. Have you ever thought to give an immortal soul to a flea; why then to an elephant, or a monkey, or my valet? A child dies in a mother's womb, just at the moment when it has received a soul. Will it rise again to a fetus? or a boy, or a man? To rise again to my mind and to be the same person that you were - you must have your memory perfectly fresh and present. For it is memory that makes your identity. If your memory is lost, how could you be of the same man? What do you think?
Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

immortality isn't always about not dying. That is because (in my opinion) the body is just a shell, something to protect the soul, to be used (that is, to be used wisely, not abused) to it's limits for the purpose of bettering the soul. Dying and living are just illusions; while the body might stop working, the "spirit" of the body will continue to thrive, just in another form. I think immortality already exists, but not in the way we see it today. people hear immortality and assume it means to live thousands of years, but that kind of immortality is a just hope that comes from the fear of not knowing what will come next. the real immortality is that of the soul's existence.

I believe that immortality is ones ability to be recognized after death. Whether this recognition occurs through music, novels, pictures, or a street name is irrelevant, because mortality is the ending of a person through their death. Thus, immortality is when a person to defy death. In order to do so, a person must either not die, or be recognized as a person after death. Following the latter option, people in history books, authors who novels sell long after their death, and even people who bury time capsules have gained immortality because they are remembered after death.
I just hope i can one day become an immortal.

I find the term "immortality" referring to those who at least think they are immortal. But, in fact, if anything, they may live for trillians of years, but that would be it.
However, I have heard the expression "the immortal soul" and that is getting more at the true meaning. Technically we are talking about eternality.

Immortality is a concept of living forever. It's pretty obvious we're not immortal. Only our soul is, in my opinion.

Most people define immortality in a linear way.
Time, afterlife as in heaven or hell, or reincarnation.
Historically, as in legacies, good or bad.
Through the genes of offspring.
Through technology, to "live" forever.
It is not "having been," or "becoming."
Immortality is in each moment. It is BEING.

Immortality is the fear of death actualized. Out of a fear for death, we look for anyway to prolong the experience of life.
