Using my heater when it is not rainy does not cause the windows to fog. My trunk starts to smell musty or moldy during the rainy northwest winter, and the rear window can be foggy in the morning before I start the car, but I cannot find wet places in the trunk. I'm wondering if moisture is getting in around my tail lights, but I don't know where it would collect. The surface underneath the trunk floor and where the spare tire is tends to be dry.

Remove all of the trunk liner(carpet) so that all you see in the trunk is bare metal. Close the trunk lid. Using a garden hose, spray down the entire back window and trunk lid and rear lights for about 15 minutes. Let the water drain off the trunk lid and then open the trunk and look for water traces using a bright flashlight. When using the hose, adjust the spray for a wide angle and stand back several feet.

A difference in the temperature of the glass can cause condensation. Trunks are not a water tight compartment A slight amount of moisture will cause a moldy smell You a/c system removes the moisture on the inside but your trunk doesn't have that luxury.Any time you put the heater on defrost the a/c compressor will kick on and run the air over the condenser JUST to remove moisture. It might help to spray your trunk with lysol or something that kills mold once a week or so

The warm moist air contacting the cold glass creates condensation on the window. You should have a defrost setting that will remedy the situation. The odor in your trunk is from the same situation. The moist air in the trunk warms and condenses on the cold metal. If you could open the trunk when car is in garage or when weather is warm it will help.

sprinkle some baby powder around where you think the leak may be,do a small section at a time and clean it off after you find the leak.
try running your ac at the same time as it will dry the air and clear the fogging.
