Only cross multiply when solving proportions. Here you add instead of an equal sign.

Find common denominator. (15) What you do to denominator you must to the numerator.

(5)a/3+2a/5(3)

5a/15+6a/15.......To put together
5a+6a/15........Combine like terms
11a/15

Your answer is 11a/15

Kelsey has the best and absolutely correct answer - you make both fractions additive by adjusting them to be based on the least common denominator (smallest denominator that both have in common).

the excellent undemanding denominator you'll be able to make is (x+a million)(3x+2). the 1st term, 3/(x+a million), turns into 3(3x+2) over (x+a million)(3x+2), or 9x + 6 over (x+a million)(3x+2) the 2nd term, 2/(3x+2) turns into 2(x+a million) over (x+a million)(3x+2), or 2x + 2 over (x+a million)(3x+2) So we've 9x + 6 - (2x + 2) for the numerator, it fairly is 7x + 4 the respond is (7x + 4) / (x+a million)(3x+2). whilst you're required to FOIL the denominator, it fairly is (7x+4) / (3x^2^ + 5x + 2)
