Someone had suggested to me years ago not to buy HP products because they would only run HP printers, HP scanneres, etc. Was that true? Can I run any printer, or router on an HP laptop?

No, what the person might have been talking about was like graphics cards, hard drives, mostly the internals in the box. Actually, HP would use any printer, scanner, camera's.

Whoever told you that was not informed. If you think about it, why would HP make their laptops and computers not compatable with other brands of printers, routers, etc. It wouldn't encourage people to buy HP printers, it would encourage people not to buy HP computers.

No HP laptops and computers can run any printer, router or scanner.

Yes, your friend was wrong. HP is personally my favorite brand. Although, I prefer custom PC's the most.
