In clothing or in the lawn?
Do you have sandburs? http://www.missouriplants.com/Grasses/Cenchrus_longispinus_page.html
Or do you have another plant like Devil's pitchfork or goatheads or one of the tick-trefoils?
Identifying the plant is the first and probably the most important part of figuring out how to control it. Can you post a photo of what you're trying to control? And tell us where in the world you are, and what sort of conditions you're working with (a lawn, an abandoned field, a wildland....)

Let them begin to put on seed heads to identify the female plant. Note they grow radially outward from the center. Gently pull outlying stems toward the center (they root as they grow along the ground and break easily - survival mechanism) When you have isolated the center of the plant, use a shovel or trowel to loosen the roots. They come out very easily. Then burn the biting bisches! I can walk bare foot in my front yard now, lots of pulling, but worth it.

Mow once per week without fail during the growing season. Don't let them make seeds. It will take a couple of springs/summers to get rid of them completely, but just keep them mowed down.
