Yuk! That's ugly stuff. But when the kids were little we had guinea pigs. One guinea pig had 3 babies. When the babies were about a 3 wks old we got up one morning and the babies had eaten the mother. So much about teaching kids about nature through pets. We got rid of them in a hurry. I didn't want my kids thinking if they were mad at me......

That certainly is not "too squemish". You should only do what you are comfortable with. The whole topic of eating pets (although it really isn't a topic on its own) seems highly opinionated, and really varies from person to person, especially regarding morality of the animal.
Many people consider pets part of the family, and this sort of thing would remind them of the idea of eating a human family member, which I hope no one does. The death of a loved one is quite disturbing to most people, and it takes time for them to adjust for the animal no longer being there. Having it suddenly served to you as breakfast can be traumatizing to those that don't fully agree with the death yet.
Also, the majority of 'pets' aren't live stock, but thinks like cats and dogs or rodents, which people don't eat all to often. This is partially because they simply do not have much meat, but more so that no one would think of a hamster as somethign a human could, let alone should, eat.
There are plenty of people that do dispose of dead pets in various ways other than burial or incineration. Some people could eat it as part of some sort of sacred practice. Then there are services that 'freeze dry' a whole animal, making them permanantly preserved. Taxidermy services offer to skin animals, preserve only the fur, and stuff it. Not too many people you ask will say this is right, mainly because it isn't mainstream. But people have their own ways of doing things.
I personally never throw a dead animal away. I findd it unbearable to think it as garbage. I often bury dead pets in pots for some months until their bones are preserved for collecting. I also have a recipe for mummifying animals, but I don't do this with pets. Occasionally I keep their fur pelts as well.
Now, this is only what I do. I'm not telling people to agree with me or do it as well, so no one has any reason to feel offended.

I guess because I'm a farmer I'm not to squeamish about eating animals that I cared for
I have raised pigs that were tame enough to follow me around and eat out my hand and knew their names but I still slaughtered and ate them
same with rabbits and chickens and even cows
all depends on your point of view

Yeah, I used to eat chickens and pheasants we'd raised from little chicks. The way I see it, at least they lived decent lives till they were eaten unlike animals in a factory farm.
Though, I can't imagine anyone taking delight in slaughtering them. None of my family took delight in slaughtering it, but, homegrown meat tastes so much better then factory grown, so I would be lying if I said we didn't enjoy eating it..

NO WAY! I did, however, laugh my **** off at an episode of "Strangers with candy" where Jerri and her family and friends ate her chicken "Suki" at the end of the episode.
I don't think you're being squeamish at all. But I'm vegan so I guess that's a significant bias.

No... that is not being squeamish.. it was once a pet that you took care of and loved and your family kinda ruined your image of your loving pet. if my family took away my dog away and at it, i would also never look at meat the same way.

Never have and never will. I don't eat meat. I feed my pets raw meat... I literally gag some days while I'm feeding them. I've been feeding them this way for almost 11 years... still haven't gotten over it.
You are not too squeamish.

my boyfriends dad bought two pet rabbits once...i guess it never clicked in that they would have about a million babies.
So he made the family some rabbit stew. thank goodness that was before i met them.
i would never be able to eat a pet.
