Turtle steak. While in Cozamel I ate it. Tasted just like regualar beef steak. Don't hesitate to try something new. You might find you love it.

Calamari. I was on vacation out in S. Dakota, and stopped at a casino for dinner because the locals said their buffet was the best place to eat. I helped myself to what looked like onion rings at the food bar, among other things. I tried to eat one of them and couldn't believe how tough and rubbery it was. I thought maybe they just cooked it too long, so I kept chewing and struggled through it and managed to get it down. I picked up another one and put it in my mouth, expecting it to taste better, but it was the same, so I spit it out. The waitress came by shortly and asked how everything was. I told her that mostly it was fine, but those were the worst onion rings I ever ate. She told me "those aren't onion rings, that's calamari - slices of octupus tentacle". As far as I'm concerned they can save those exotic foods for the rich people with the more highly refined taste buds.I also thought the casino should have had a sign at the food bar saying what those items were, so they wouldn't get wasted by diners like me.

Whoa !!!!!!!!!!!!! Japanese 'natto' (fermented soy beans). It has a very strong aroma & flavor. Every Japanese just loves it . My friend asked me & I tried. It's packed in a little white plastic cup. You have to stir it more than 33 times with chopsticks cuz it's so sticky. I struggled a bit with my chopsticks & finally managed to to pick some beans up. When I get to taste their natto, I said ooh. And anyone who gets to taste it will say that, too, for that matter. It takes a little while to get used to its really out of this world taste. Up until now, I'm not used to it. It's a very healthy food, though.

I forget the name of it ,but it was a tiny fish about 4 inches long which had been dried in the hot sunshine for a few days.It still had all of its bones and guts and scales and fins and eyes. I watched my wife eat three of them like they were candy. Sometimes I tease her about it. In the PHILIPPINES this is an "ORDINARY" food.
