the media doesnt make people anything. People have their own brains, and can make their own choices. The outcome of one's life is a result of the choices one makes.

Media is a funny thing....
Most sources (TV, Movies, magazines, even newspapers) portray an unobtainable image. That being women wafer thin (only 1-5 % of women can obtain this image naturally).
On the opposite hand, our CULTURE loves anything fast and convenient...FAST FOOD. This *convenience* is anything but, it's making a huge (pardon the pun) impact on our society.
As this obesity trend continues more people will live shorter lives due to heart/colon/obesity risks, hence America's already subpar health care will be over burdened. There will be a day when MEAT is taxed, rest on that...it's coming.
Again, with the all time high swarms of people reaching obesity, others will unhealthily rebel into things like anorexia (fear of becoming large). There is always rebellion to any movement.
But dont get me wrong because I've been there, eating disorders are not about weight-they are about control. For Anorexia it's about self control and lack of self worth.
For overeating, it's about finding one comfort. Food is the friend to over eaters.
Back to the media, this is most dangerous for women...if you havent ever noticed women are held to a perfect 10 standard, and that same 10 will be married to an average Joe (on TV). Really sad stuff and very impressionable on all viewers.
So....media makes women feel insecure unless they anorexic skinny. And our American lifestyle makes up prone to overeating disgusting foods.
Choose well.

Neither. The media is only an influence. The more conscious you are about the decisions you make regarding food or anything, the less influence the media has. Simply put, if i'm fat or skinny, it's because of the choices i make (or genetics), not the media.

The problem is that they sell two very contradictory images. One the one hand you have ads selling junk food at all times and on the other hand you see skinny people on almost every ad selling clothes, perfumes, etc. They tell you to be skinny, sometimes even to insanity but then they tell you should eat like crazy. They mess up with people's heads so much.

The answer is both; it makes men fat and women anorexic.

No, we do! There is such a thing as free will and the ability to turn the switch button off!

You know it's all fake. How many models, or people you thought could be models, have you seen at MacDonald's or Dunkin' Donuts lately?
