How many gifts do I get my kids?

Question

I have four children and sometimes I think I buy them too many gifts. I don't want to spoil them. What is the average number of gifts for kids for x-mas?

I should have put in ages 15,11,8,5.

I get mine, 4 also, quite a few. But, most are just little things. Like coloring books, yo yo's, little trinkets like that. Then, I try to get them one thing that is about 50 to 75 each. Then a couple of nice things for 20 or 30. That's it. That's all they get. Oh, they get one outfit also. Socks and underware are also those little gifts. But, they are older now. So, it's getting more difficult. And this and their birthday is the ONLY time they get anything for the year bought for them. Except for school clothes. They get nothing in between. No money. So, they do enjoy the holiday.

Set a spending limit per child and stick to it. That way if a kid asks for an ipod, then they understand that is all they will get for christmas.

My daughter gets pajamas, an outfit, and then toys until I reach my spending limit. Once she is older, she will still get pajamas, an outfit, and then 'stuff' till I reach the limit.

For the younger ones, opening a lot of stuff is exciting. For the older ones, getting those expensive quality items they long for seems to be more important. You shouldn't have to match the gift count per child.

I got my two children (3 and 6) 2 main presents each (about £30 each) and some other little things like mugs, few sweets, small toys, dressing up things, books, etc

I get 3, for mine!
They represent the 3 gifts given by the wise men. I try to keep it under 150.00 each! some times it doesn't work that way, I usually go over!
I just limited other gifts to people who really aren't apart of our lives! The postmaster, garbage man, Hair dresser, dentist etc. get paid to do there jobs so, I do not feel giving to them is needed. Teachers do get something, They are teaching our children and need to feel appreciated!

Like many others have said, the best thing to do is to figure out how much spending money you have and then divide it so that you spend the same amount on each child.

i think u should spend the same amount on each kid! Like 250.00 on each kid depending on how close they are! Last year my sis bought them a wii and a game for eachof them and some clothes and they were happier then anyother xmas

You should get one each for them. And then give them enough to purchase a gift each for someone in need, or to donate to charity. If you want to spend more get them mutual funds.

Teach them early on about the value of money.

Or do what I do, and skip it all together. I'm trying to think up a new name for the month of December. The holidays are such a freaking waste of time.

Whoa! Three thumbs down for me encouraging giving to charity, and teaching about setting money aside. No wonder the world is full of spoiled little brats. You probibly let your boys color their hair.

it's not the number it's from the HEART. maybe you can have a serious talk with them about how what you give one doesn;t mean you love anyone else less and maybe let them decide one thing each for them to get, then if you want splurge on one extra.

and christmas only comes around once a year!

but make sure they know that they only get what they get, they have to be greatful and not nag for things through the year (apart from birthdays of course!)

I set a dollar amount per kid and whatever I can buy within that amount is what they get.
