It came out i think in 1963 and i was born in 1962. I can remember being very young and watching that movie. It totally scarred the crap out of me. To this day i still have weird feelings when i see a huge flock of birds. Anyone else freaked out about birds because of that movie?

Yes, I remember it well. I was born in '59 so I guess I was 4 when it came out. However, I don't remember seeing it in the theater, for some reason I am remembering seeing in on TV like on the Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Theater or something, so that could have even been a few years later?
Anyway, it was very scary, probably because it was something that I could actually imagine happening (unlike supernatural monsters such as Dracula, Mummy, Frankenstein). I think we took a trip to the beach at Galveston either that same year or the next summer and I was on pins and needles every time I saw a seagull. And since we lived in the country, there were always lots of other birds around, so anytime I saw a flock of them it would kind of spook me.

Stephen King has used birds in several of his horror books--I think that movie must have had an effect on him, too!

Now I live in a rural part of Texas pretty much surrounded by poultry houses, but since they don't fly and since they are so dumb they don't really freak me out--they just smell bad!

It's a classic. But aside of being very entertaining, it was far from being very realistic. So I have no fear of birds as a result.

That said, I definitely thought of it once when I threw some french fries to a flock of seagulls and they came after me when I ran out!

Rod Taylor, sure that was an awesome movie, so realistic. The scenes with the eyes pecked out freaked me out also. I always wondered how in the world did they get all those birds in the scenes?

Check out Mel Brooks' sendup of Hitchcock films "High Anxiety." The scene that spoofs "The Birds" is hilarious. Perhaps a good laugh will help you get over the fear.

Yes I watched the Birds when I was a little girl. I was frightened by it then, of course. Now I enjoy watching it with my sons who get a kick out of the "old time special effects".
It is still one of my favorite old black-and-white movies.
