this was a very small but agressive snake in Eastern Pa. its back instead of being rounded was rather pointed.

I've never heard of a snake with a 'pointed' back. You may be referring to a malnourished snake with a protruding spine? The links below give information about PA snakes..

it may be that it was an undernourished snake, can you put a better description here ? Like color, size, etc?
