Not a clue! Weird, isn't it? I have an '06 Chevy and couldn't find my battery til I looked in the trunk next to the spare tire. lol

Acutally, putting the battery under the hood near the front is the worst place for it. Heat and vibration are the two worst enemies for a battery.

Under the back seat keeps it away from the heat of the engine compartment and by being in the middle of the car, the battery is less subject to vibration.

So when you seat on the back seat it will give you an electrifying experience...

VW and AUDI has been doing it for years. So is not uncommon to do that. It saves space too. Also keeps it away from the elements and helps to prevent freezing.

Because that is where these cars had space and they wanted to compete with the euro cars for the share of the market they were losing to the euros.

To protect it from the elements, and because nothing else was using that space.
